Unicul candidat la funcția de președinte EOC Spyros Capralos, membru CIO, a fost reales în această funcție pentru un nou mandat de 4 ani prin vot deschis.

Vicepreședinte a devenit Daina Gudzineviciute (Lituania), unic candidat ales prin vot deschis. După retragerea lui Rafaele Pagnozzi, secretar general a fost ales Carlo Mornati (Italia), cu o abținere din partea Olandei, iar trezorier a rămas tot Peter Mennel (Austria), singurul candidat pentru această funcție.

Pentru cele 12 locuri ale Comitetului Executiv EOC au candidat 17 persoane și au fost aleși: Jose Manuel Araujo (Portugalia) - 31 Voturi, Franjo Bobinac (Slovenia) - 39 voturi, Victoria Cabezas (Spania) - 41 voturi, Líney Rut Halldórsdóttir (Islanda) - 43 voturi, Danka Hrbekova-Bartekova (Slovacia) - 43 voturi, Zlatko Matesa (Croația) - 34 voturi, Annamarie Phelps (Marea Britanie)- 41 voturi, Jean Michel Saive(Belgia) - 41 voturi, Emma Terho (Finlanda) - 38 voturi, Anneke Van Zanen-Nieberg (Olanda) - 28 voturi, Thomas Weikert (Germania) - 39 voturi.

Delegația Comitetului Olimpic și Sportiv Român a fost condusă de secretarul general George Boroi, alături de Florin Mișcă, secretar general adjunct.

Octavian Morariu, membru CIO pentru România, este prezent la Adunarea Generală de la Frankfurt.

Adunarea Generală a fost deschisă de președintele Comitetului Olimpic German Thomas Weikert. A urmat de discursul președintelui EOC Spyros Capralos.
Momentul care a captat atenția tuturor a fost speech-ul președintelui CIO Thomas Bach care a făcut o scurtă recapitulare a momentelor cheie din mandatul său de președinte și a reamintit tuturor misiunea Mișcarii Olimpice.

Mesajul său a avut în centru cuvinte ca solidaritate, respect, împreună, stabilitate, prietenie și, la final, mulțumesc. Thomas Bach a reamintit celor prezenți că Mișcarea Olimpică are stabilitate financiară pentru următoarele două decade și a vorbit despre Jocurile Olimpice de la Paris ca referință pentru cele care vor urma. A declarat că banii sunt doar un instrument pentru CIO în misiunea de a ajuta sportivii să atingă visul olimpic. Thomas Bach și-a luat la revedere, emoționat, pentru că, în martie, mandatul său în funcția de președinte CIO, început în 2013, se încheie.

La Adunarea Generală EOC de la Frankfurt sunt prezenți toți cei 7 candidați la funcția de președinte CIO, Prințul Feisal AL HUSSEIN, Lord Sebastian COE, Kirsty COVENTRY, Johan ELIASCH, David LAPPARTIENT, Juan Antonio SAMARANCH, Morinari WATANABE, precum și numeroși membri CIO care candidează pentru o funcție în Comitetul Executiv CIO.

Comitetele Olimpice Europene au acordat la alegerile de la Frankfurt, din cadrul Adunării Generale a Asociației Comitetelor Olimpice Europene (EOC), cele mai multe voturi lui Mihai Covaliu, președintele COSR, campion olimpic mondial și european la sabie.

Victoria președintelui COSR și accesul în Comitetul Executiv al EOC cu peste 89% din voturi, 44 la număr, a transferat încredere și a adus bucurie delegației României prezentă la Adunarea Generală EOC.

Thomas Bach, președintele CIO, campion olimpic la floretă, l-a felicitat pe Mihai Covaliu, alături de Spyros Capralos, președintele EOC și de Octavian Morariu, membru CIO pentru România, precum și de o parte dintre delegații prezenți la Adunare.

”E un vot care reflectă poziția Mișcării Olimpice din România în lumea olimpică europeană și internațională. E un vot care construiește și care consolidează poziția la masa deciziilor a organizației noastre. Totodată, e un vot care mă obligă personal tinând cont de echipa care este în spatele acestei reușite. Mulțumesc pentru încredere tuturor!”, a declarat Mihai Covaliu, președinte COSR, membru în Comitetul Executiv EOC pentru următorii 4 ani.

Mihai Covaliu, Re-elected as a Member of the EOC Executive Committee

During the 54th EOC General Assembly in Frankfurt, the President of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee was re-elected to the board of the European Olympic Forum with the highest number of votes, 44.

Mihai Covaliu is now serving his second term in the Executive Committee of the European Olympic Movement. The sole candidate for the position of EOC President, Spyros Capralos, an IOC member, was re-elected for another four-year term by open vote.

Daina Gudzineviciute (Lithuania) was elected Vice President as the sole candidate through an open vote. Following the resignation of Rafaele Pagnozzi, Carlo Mornati (Italy) was elected as Secretary General, with one abstention from the Netherlands, while Peter Mennel (Austria) remained Treasurer as the only candidate for the position.

For the 12 seats in the EOC Executive Committee, 17 candidates competed, and the following were elected:

The delegation of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee was led by Secretary General George Boroi, accompanied by Deputy Secretary General Florin Mișcă. Octavian Morariu, IOC member for Romania, was also present at the General Assembly in Frankfurt.

The General Assembly was opened by Thomas Weikert, President of the German Olympic Committee, followed by a speech from Spyros Capralos, President of the EOC.

A highlight of the event was the speech by IOC President Thomas Bach, who briefly reflected on the key moments of his presidency and reiterated the Olympic Movement’s mission. His message emphasized words such as solidarity, respect, unity, stability, and friendship, concluding with a heartfelt "thank you."

Thomas Bach reminded attendees that the Olympic Movement has financial stability for the next two decades and referred to the Paris Olympic Games as a benchmark for future editions. He stated that money is merely a tool for the IOC to help athletes achieve their Olympic dreams. An emotional Bach bid farewell, as his term as IOC President, which began in 2013, will conclude in March.

Additionally, several IOC members running for positions in the IOC Executive Committee were in attendance.

During the elections held at the EOC General Assembly, Mihai Covaliu, President of ROSC and Olympic, World, and European sabre champion, received the highest number of votes, securing his place in the Executive Committee with 44 votes (over 89%). His victory instilled confidence and brought joy to the Romanian delegation at the EOC General Assembly.

Thomas Bach, IOC President and Olympic fencing champion, congratulated Mihai Covaliu alongside Spyros Capralos (EOC President), Octavian Morariu (IOC member for Romania), and several other delegates present at the Assembly.
