Mândrie, Moștenire, Onoare - 110 ani de Olimpism în România în 110 Momente din istoria Mișcării Olimpice

La 27 martie 1914, la cererea lui Gheorge Alexandru Plagino, deja membru al Comitetului Internațional Olimpic pentru România la acea vreme, se înființează Comitetul Olimpic Român. Tot atunci au fost desemnați primii delegaţi români la Congresul Internaţional al Comitetului Internaţional Olimpic de la Paris.

Primul președinte al Comitetului Olimpic și Sportiv Român a fost ASR Principele Carol al României (1914-1920). Comitetul Olimpic Român, fondat pe 27 martie 1914, a fost imediat recunoscut de Comitetul Internațional Olimpic.

În plus, în contextul Mişcării Olimpice, un rol important, recunoscut şi de către CIO, în renaşterea Jocurilor Olimpice l-a avut şi cetăţeanul român de origine greacă Evanghelie Zappa (1800-1865), stabilit în anul 1833 la Broşteni, judeţul Ialomiţa. Din iniţiativa acestui negustor, mare iubitor de artă şi literatură, au renăscut JO la Atena, desfăşurându-se în anii 1859, 1870, 1875 şi 1889, sub numele „Olimpicele”, însă numai cu participare grecească, după modelul celor din Antichitate.

Comitetul Olimpic și Sportiv Român (COSR) este o asociație de interes național aparținând Mișcării Olimpice, care este organizată și care funcționează în baza statutului propriu elaborat în conformitate cu prevederile Chartei Olimpice și legislației române în vigoare. COSR are rolul de a promova principiile fundamentale ale Olimpismului la nivel național, precum și de a sprijini crearea unor instituții care se dedică Educației Olimpice.

COSR sprijină sportul de înaltă performanță și are obligația de a alcătui Echipa României care participă la Jocurile Olimpice. De asemenea, COSR trebuie să organizeze și să conducă delegațiile sale atât la Jocurile Olimpice cât și la alte competiții internaționale patronate de Comitetul International Olimpic (CIO).

Pentru noi, 110 de ani de istorie înseamnă 309 medalii, respectul lumii olimpice și moștenirea unei națiuni.

On March 27, 1914, at the request of Gheorge Alexandru Plagino, already a member of the International Olympic Committee for Romania, the Romanian Olympic Committee was founded. At that time, the first Romanian delegates were appointed to the International Congress of the International Olympic Committee in Paris.

The first president of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee was HRH Prince Carol of Romania (1914-1920). The Romanian Olympic Committee, founded on March 27, 1914, was immediately recognized by the International Olympic Committee.

In addition, in the context of the Olympic Movement, an important role, recognized by the IOC, in the revival of the Olympic Games was played by the Romanian citizen of Greek origin, Evanghelie Zappa (1800-1865), who settled in Broșteni, Ialomița County in 1833. At the initiative of this merchant, a great lover of art and literature, the Olympic Games were revived in Athens, held in 1859, 1870, 1875, and 1889, under the name "Olympic Games", but only with Greek participation, following the model of those from Antiquity.

The Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee (COSR) is a national interest association belonging to the Olympic Movement, which is organized and operates in accordance with the provisions of the Olympic Charter and Romanian legislation in force. COSR has the role of promoting the fundamental principles of Olympism at the national level, as well as supporting the creation of institutions dedicated to Olympic Education.

COSR supports high-performance sports and has the obligation to assemble the Romanian Team participating in the Olympic Games. Also, COSR must organize and lead its delegations both at the Olympic Games and at other international competitions patronized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

For us, 110 years of history mean 309 medals, the respect of the Olympic world, and the legacy of a nation.
