Punct final la JOT Gangwon 2024 pentru TEAM ROMANIA.  Boglárka Páll și Ștefan Paul Gherghel au fost ultimii sportivi tricolori care au evoluat în întrecerile olimpice din Coreea. Cei doi au luat startul în competiția de schi fond și au încheiat în a doua jumătate a clasamentului atât în probele de sprint liber cât și la 7,5 km clasic.

Chiar dacă pe podiumul olimpic de tineret a urcat doar Mihaela Alexia Anton – BRONZ la monobob, toți cei 33 de componenți ai TEAM ROMÂNIA care au luat startul la JOT Gangwon 2024 sunt câștigători. Unii au câștigat doar experiență, alții locuri fruntașe în clasamente. Unii s-au bucurat de trăirile din timpul competițiilor, alții au fost ambiționați de evoluțiile care puteau fi îmbunătățite. Prezența la Jocurile Olimpice de Tineret de la Gangwon a fost pentru mulți dintre componenții echipei olimpice a României scânteia care a aprins focul dorinței de a reveni la Jocuri, ca senori.

După 12 zile competiționale, TEAM ROMANIA își ia rămas bun de la primele Jocuri Olimpice de Tineret din Asia cu o medalie – BRONZ la monobob, Mihaela Alexia Anton și trei locuri 6 - Theodor Liviu Buligescu, skeleton, Sami-Florin-Dicu Mihai – monobob masculin și Luiza Georgiana Olaru – monobob feminin. Dintre ocupanții locurilor 6, cel mai aproape de podium a fost Sami Mihai, care în prima manșă a finalei s-a clasat al treilea. Din păcate, emoțiile și-au spus cuvântul. Sportivul tricolor a mers mai slab în runda secundă, care s-a dovedit a fi decisivă, și a terminat departe de medalii.

Cotată printre sportivii cu șanse la podiumul de la snowboard cross, Kata Madel, locul 4 anul trecut la Festivalul Olimpic al Tineretului European Friuli Venetia Giulia (FVG), s-a accidentat la primul antrenament pe pârtiile coreene și a ratat întrecerile. Supărarea i-a fost îndulcită de încurajările pe care i le-a transmis însuși Thomas Bach, președintele Comitetului Internațional Olimpic (CIO), prin intermediul unei scrisori. Ceasul cu însemnele olimpice oferit de șeful CIO  va fi de acum încolo nu numai suvenirul sportivei ci și talismanul care îi va călăuzi pașii spre succese care să facă uitat ghinionul de la Gangwon.

La biatlon, Horia Urs, un alt sportiv care a acumulat experiență olimpică la FOTE FVG 2023, a avut o comportare remarcabilă, reușind cele mai bun rezutate ale TEAM ROMANIA la biatlon din istoria participărilor la JOT. După ce la individual s-a clasat pe locul 13, la 7,5 km sprint, Hotia a încheiat pe 10 proba de ștafetă mixtă 2x6 km + 2x7,5 km, alături de colega sa Krisztina Silló.

În top 10 s-au clasat și alți doi sportivi: Ioana Toma, la skeleton – individual și  Vlad Florin Mușei, sanie – simplu.

Rezulatele înregistrate de TEAM ROMANIA la schi fond la JOT Gangwon 2024:

- 7,5 km clasic:  Boglárka Páll - Locul 47 -cu timpul 26:43.7; Ștefan Paul Gherghel - Locul 53 - cu timpul 23:28.6,
- sprint liber: Boglárka Páll - Locul 49 - cu timpul 4:05.56; Ștefan Paul Gherghel - Locul 62 - cu timpul 3:36.49

Ceremonia de închidere a celei de a IV-a ediții de iarnă a Jocurilor – JOT Gangwon 2024 va avea loc joi, 1 februarie.

TEAM ROMANIA concludes Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics 2024 with a bronze medal in monobob

The final days at Gangwon 2024 for TEAM ROMANIA. Boglárka Páll and Ștefan Paul Gherghel were the last romanian athletes to compete in the Olympic events in Korea. The duo participated in the cross-country skiing competition and finished in the second half of the rankings in both the freestyle sprint and the 7.5 km classic events.

Even though only Mihaela Alexia Anton claimed a spot on the Youth Olympic podium with a bronze in monobob, all 33 members of TEAM ROMANIA who participated at Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics 2024 are winners. Some gained valuable experience, while others secured prominent positions in the standings. Some enjoyed the experiences during the competitions, while others were motivated by areas for improvement. The presence at the Youth Olympic Games in Gangwon was, for many team members, the spark that ignited the desire to return to the Games as champions.

After 12 days of competition, TEAM ROMANIA bids farewell to the first Youth Olympic Games in Asia with a medal – a bronze in monobob for Mihaela Alexia Anton and three 6th-place finishes for Theodor Liviu Buligescu (skeleton), Sami-Florin-Dicu Mihai (men's monobob), and Luiza Georgiana Olaru (women's monobob). Among the 6th-place finishers, Sami Mihai was the closest to the podium, securing the third position in the first run of the final. Unfortunately, nerves played a role, and the tricolor athlete performed less impressively in the decisive second round, finishing far from the medals.

Kata Madel, considered among the athletes with podium chances in snowboard cross, and who secured 4th place last year at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Friuli Venetia Giulia (FVG), suffered an injury during the first training on the Korean slopes, so she had to miss the competitions. Her disappointment was softened by the encouragement received directly from Thomas Bach, the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), through a letter. The Olympic-themed watch given by the IOC chief will now serve not only as a memento for the athlete but also as a talisman guiding her steps toward future successes that will overshadow the misfortune at Gangwon.

In biathlon, Horia Urs, another athlete with Olympic experience from FOTE FVG 2023, delivered a remarkable performance, achieving the best results for TEAM ROMANIA in biathlon in the history of Youth Olympic participations. After securing the 13th place in the individual event, Urs finished 10th in the mixed relay 2x6 km + 2x7.5 km, alongside his teammate Krisztina Silló.

Two other athletes also made it into the top 10: Ioana Toma in skeleton (individual) and Vlad Florin Mușei in singles luge.

7.5 km classic: Boglárka Páll - 47th place with a time of 26:43.7; Ștefan Paul Gherghel - 53rd place with a time of 23:28.6,

Freestyle sprint: Boglárka Páll - 49th place with a time of 4:05.56; Ștefan Paul Gherghel - 62nd place with a time of 3:36.49.

The closing ceremony of the fourth winter edition of the Games – Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics 2024 will take place on Thursday, February 1.
