În foate cele trei finale, românii s-au întâlnit cu reprezentanții Franței care s-au dovedit de fiecare dată de neînvins.

Echipa masculină U19 (favorita 9), formată din Robert Istrate, Mihai Nagy, Robert Podar, Andrei Țîbîrnă și Luca Trașcu repurtat o victorie categorică în semifinală, scor 3-0 cu Spania (favorita 4), dar în finala contra Franței, principala favorită, a cedat cu 0-3.

La feminin, întâlnirea pentru titlu a fost aproape în oglindă. Echipa U19 a României (favorita 2), formată din Andreea Băiașu, Bianca Mei-Roșu, Alesia Sferlea, Maria Stoian și Patricia Stoica, a cedat în fața Franței (favorita 1), de asemenea, cu 0-3.

Robert Istrate și Bianca Mei-Roșu, favoriții nr. 3 în competiția de dublu mixt U19, și-au dublat medaliile de la echipe, după ce au urcat pe podium și la dublu mixt. În finală, românii au intrat la masă cu încredere și au luptat până la ultimul punct, chiar dacă îi aveau de înfruntat pe reprezentanții Franței Robert– Antoine Noirault/Leana Hochart, favoriții nr. 1.

Partida a fost extrem de disputată. Cu excepția setului 2 adjudecat de reprezentanții noștri, seturile au fost echilibrate și s-au încheiat la limită, însă în defavoarea românilor, 1-3 (11-13, 11-4, 10-12, 10-12).

La succesul tinerilor sportivi români o contribuție importantă a avut colectivul tehnic format din antrenorii Bogdan Albescu, Istvan Gyorgy, Mădălin Ionașcu, Alexandru Dincă, Anamaria Sebe, psihologul Mioara Șincan, kinetoterapeutul Mircea Lascăr și preparatorul fizic Andrei Gherase.

Locul important pe care îl ocupă tenisul de masă românesc este dovedit și de faptul că România a câștigat organizarea Campionatului European Individual Seniori din 2028.

Three silver medals for Romania at the European Junior Table Tennis Championships

The European Junior Table Tennis Championships, hosted over ten days in the Portuguese city of Gondomar, ended with three silver medals for Romania. Both Romanian U19 national teams — women’s and men’s — finished on the second step of the podium, as did the Robert Istrate/Bianca Mei-Roșu pair in the U19 mixed doubles event.

In all three finals, the Romanian players faced representatives of France, who proved unbeatable each time.

The U19 men’s team, seeded ninth and made up of Robert Istrate, Mihai Nagy, Robert Podar, Andrei Țîbîrnă and Luca Trașcu, claimed a convincing 3-0 victory over fourth-seeded Spain in the semi-final, but lost 0-3 to top-seeded France in the final.

In the women’s competition, the title match followed an almost identical pattern. Romania’s U19 team, seeded second and comprising Andreea Băiașu, Bianca Mei-Roșu, Alesia Sferlea, Maria Stoian and Patricia Stoica, also lost 0-3 to top-seeded France.

Robert Istrate and Bianca Mei-Roșu, the third seeds in the U19 mixed doubles competition, added another medal to the ones they had won in the team events by also reaching the podium in mixed doubles. In the final, the Romanian pair approached the match with confidence and fought until the very last point, despite facing France’s top-seeded duo Robert-Antoine Noirault and Leana Hochart.

The match was extremely closely contested. With the exception of the second game, won by the Romanian pair, all the games were evenly balanced and decided by the narrowest of margins, but ultimately went against Romania: 1-3 (11-13, 11-4, 10-12, 10-12).

The technical staff also made an important contribution to the success of the young Romanian athletes. The team included coaches Bogdan Albescu, Istvan Gyorgy, Mădălin Ionașcu, Alexandru Dincă and Anamaria Sebe, psychologist Mioara Șincan, physiotherapist Mircea Lascăr and strength and conditioning coach Andrei Gherase.

Romania’s prominent place in European table tennis is also reflected by the fact that the country has been awarded the right to host the 2028 European Individual Championships for seniors.
