Excelența Sa Ihor Prokapchuk a menționat în nenumărate rânduri drama prin care trece poporul ucrainean de un an de zile. Războiul care a început  în timpul Jocurilor Olimpice de iarnă Beijing 2022, a încălcat Armistițiul Olimpic, ratificat de Organizația Națiunilor Unite, a produs victime și în rândul sportivilor și antrenorilor ucraineni.  Pentru poporul din Ucraina este inacceptabil ca sportivii ruși să participe la JO Paris 2024. Ar fi legitimizarea războiului, a crimelor comise de forțele ruse pe teritoriul statului lor.

” La un an de la începerea războiului (n.r. 24 februarie 2022) oamenii suferă în Ucraina. Războiul continuă, oamenii sunt uciși, infrastructura e afectată. Pe lista victimelor acestui război sunt și  231 de membri ai comunițății sportive, sportivi și antrenori. Peste 343 de baze sportive au fost afectate de bombardamente. Vă mulțumim pentru sprijinul continuu oferit sportivilor de performanță dar și tinerilor veniți din Ucraina, pentru că au primit asistență în diferite locații de antrenament.”, a punctat Excelența Sa, Ihor Prokapchuk.

Președintele COSR Mihai Covaliu a menționat că există o linie de comunicare deschisă permanent între Comitetul Olimpic și Sportiv Român și Mișcarea Olimpică din Ucraina. Relațiile de colaborare și prietenie cu membrul CIO Sergei Bubka și cu Vadim Gutzeit, ministrul Sportului și președintele Comitetului Olimpic din Ucraina, sunt de notorietate.

”Suntem alături și susținem sportivii ucraineni, am ajutat de fiecare dată când ni s-a cerut sprijinul. Alături de Comitetul Internațional Olimpic, de  Comitetele Olimpice Europene, căutăm soluții pentru a aduce speranță sportivilor și oamenilor din Ucraina. De fapt, sportul asta înseamnă, el unește oamenii. Suntem în legătură directă cu toți colegii din Mișcarea Olimpică Europeană și colaborăm pentru a găsi soluții optime pentru ajutorarea sportivilor ucaineni.”, a confirmat acțiunile Mihai Covaliu.

George Boroi, secretarul general COSR, l-a asigurat pe Ambasadorul Ucrainei, că Mișcarea Olimpică din România are deschise porțile Complexului Olimpic ”Sydney 2000” din Izvorani pentru sportivii de performanță ucraineni. De asemenea, a punctat ajutorul oferit și  unor sportivi de club din Ucraina prin intermediul anumitor Federații sportive.

În cadrul întâlnirii președintele COSR Mihai Covaliu a precizat că la Jocurile Europene de la Cracovia Malopolka 2023, comitetul de organizare și Asociația Comitetelor Olimpice Europene au decis să nu invite la competiție sportivii din Rusia și Belarus.

365 days for Ukraine

A year of war and sincere thanks to the Olympic Movement in Romania for the support given to athletes from Ukraine were the topics of discussion between the management of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee, president Mihai Covaliu, general secretary George Boroi and Ihor Prokopchuk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine in Romania.

His Excellency Ihor Prokapchuk has repeatedly mentioned the drama that the Ukrainian people have been going through for a year. The war, which began during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, violated the Olympic Armistice, ratified by the United Nations, and has also produced casualties among Ukrainian athletes and coaches. For the people of Ukraine, it is unacceptable for Russian athletes to participate in the Paris 2024 Olympics. It would be the legalization of the war, of the crimes committed by the Russian forces on the territory of their state.

"One year after the start of the war (February 24, 2022) people are suffering in Ukraine. The war continues, people are killed, infrastructure is damaged. On the list of victims of this war are also 231 members of the sports community, athletes and coaches. More than 343 sports bases were affected by the bombings. We thank you for the continuous support offered to the performance athletes and also to the young people from Ukraine, because they received assistance in various training locations," His Excellency Ihor Prokapchuk pointed out.

COSR President Mihai Covaliu mentioned that there is a permanently open line of communication between the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee and the Ukrainian Olympic Movement. Collaborative and friendly relations with IOC member Sergei Bubka and Vadim Gutzeit, Minister of Sports and President of the Olympic Committee of Ukraine, are well known.

"We stand by and support Ukrainian athletes; we helped every time we were asked for support. Together with the International Olympic Committee, the European Olympic Committees, we are looking for solutions to bring hope to the athletes and people of Ukraine. As a matter of fact, this what sport is, it unites people. We are in direct contact with all our colleagues from the European Olympic Movement and we are working together to find the best solutions to help Ukrainian athletes", confirmed Mihai Covaliu's actions.

George Boroi, COSR general secretary, promised the Ambassador of Ukraine that the Olympic Movement in Romania has opened the doors of the "Sydney 2000" Olympic Complex in Izvorani for Ukrainian performance athletes. He also pointed out the help offered to club athletes in Ukraine through several sports federations.

During the meeting, COSR President Mihai Covaliu stated that at the European Games in Krakow Malopolka 2023, the organizing committee and the Association of European Olympic Committees decided not to invite athletes from Russia and Belarus.
